The Indian T20 League is India's top T20 cricket competition, started by the BCCI in 2008. Initially, there were eight teams, but since 2022, there are ten teams: Team Mumbai, Team Chennai, Team Kolkata, Team Punjab, Team Rajasthan, Team Bengaluru, Team Delhi, Team Lucknow, Team Gujarat, and Team Hyderabad. Team Gujarat and Team Lucknow joined in 2022.

Team Chennai and Team Mumbai have been the most successful teams, each winning five titles. Team Chennai won in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023 under MS Dhoni’s leadership, and they’ve also finished runners-up five times. Team Mumbai won their titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020, led by Rohit Sharma.

The very first edition of the Indian T20 League was won by Team Rajasthan, captained by the late Shane Warne. They beat Team Chennai by three wickets in the final. Team Deccan won the second edition in 2009, which was held in South Africa due to the Indian general elections. They defeated Team Bengaluru by six runs.

Team Chennai’s first win came in 2010 when they beat Team Mumbai by 22 runs, and they defended their title in 2011 by beating Team Bengaluru by 58 runs. After a brief suspension from the league, they returned and won again in 2018. Chennai won their fourth title in 2021 by defeating Team Kolkata and added a fifth title in 2023, beating Team Gujarat.

Team Kolkata won their first championship in 2012, defeating Team Chennai by five wickets. It claimed its second title in 2014 by beating Team Punjab and recently secured its third title in 2024, defeating Team Hyderabad by eight wickets. Apart from Team Chennai and Team Mumbai, Team Kolkata are the only other team to have won multiple titles.

Team Mumbai’s first title came in 2013 when they beat Team Chennai. They defeated Chennai again in the 2015 and 2019 finals. Their other title wins were against Team Pune in 2017 and Team Delhi in 2020. Team Gujarat won their first title in their debut season in 2022, beating Team Rajasthan in the final. However, in 2023, they finished as runners-up, losing to Team Chennai.

Team Hyderabad's only title came in 2016 under the captaincy of David Warner, when they defeated Team Bengaluru. They reached the finals in 2018 and 2024 but were beaten by Team Chennai and Team Kolkata, respectively. Team Hyderabad joined the league in 2013 as a replacement for Team Deccan.

Team Bengaluru, Team Punjab, Team Delhi, and Team Lucknow are yet to win a title.
