England are World‘s no 1 team when it comes to ODI Cricket and now that Australia have won the T20 World Cup just recently, it makes this a battle of supremacy where the scores are tied at 1-1. However, there are obviously some bonus points for winning in Test Cricket and the points and the value of that win increases by many times when the series in question is The Ashes.

Pitch Condition and Weather Report

Now coming to the pitch conditions before we move on to the team selections by both of these teams. But we just have one stat for you that might blow you away. England last won a test match at the Gabba, Brisbane in 1984 when Sir Ian Botham managed to score a game changing 138. So England will really have to play out of their socks to get something from the first test.

But hey a young Indian Team just raided this very Gabba fortress just at the beginning of the year. So never say never Joe Root.

The pitch in Gabba is expected to be just like the pitch in Gabba. Cliche right?

But that’s alright because there will be that typical bounce in this wicket and it should quicken as the days go by. However due to prolonged rain, the pitch has stayed mostly under the covers. So that extra green tinge should not be there. However the conditions are set to be overcast for the first three days which means that the ball will definitely do a lot more. But for the last two days of the test, the weather is expected to get clear which ensures that we will get a result.
