Washington Sundar has one been of the finds of current cricket season.
It s hard to believe that a part time spinner, who was considered a T20 specialist is making heads turn with his batting deeds!
Indian coach, Ravi Shastri, for one is mighty impressed with the young lad’s ability.
Gushed Shastri, “Unbelievable composure and temperament. At the U19 stage, he was an opening batsman, but to see that kind of body language, unfazed by the best bowlers in the world in the toughest situations as in Brisbane, as in Chennai, was unreal.”
“This was an even better innings than Brisbane because you’re playing at home, you have a WTC final spot on the line and you’re 50 adrift.”
“Yes you’ve got Axar coming in, but your objective is to get closer to 205. But these youngsters are not thinking on those terms. They’re playing normal cricket, they’re playing fearless cricket and they’re playing free cricket, and then we go on to get 360.”
“Washington has far more natural ability than I had.”
He should be batting in the top four for his state. He’s good enough.”
“He belongs there and he can get a lot of runs. At the same time, if he can focus on his bowling, India will have a very good number six.”
“Someone who can get you 50, 60, 70 and then bowl you 20 overs. It was my role and he can do it even better.”
We hope Sundar can live up to his lofty potential.
