Well, we are midway through the 2022-23 season of the big bash and needless to say, it’s getting pretty interesting. The quality of cricket on display is simply mind-boggling. There have been a lot of amazing catches, some outstanding innings and quite a few memorable games already in the tournament. As we inch closer to the business end of the tournament, let us look at the potential favourites to lift the trophy this year.

Perth Scorchers – One of the best teams in the tournament by a distance. Yes, they have let quite a few of their key players go yet the Scorchers look quite settled and dangerous as a team. They have a very good group of core Australian players who have been playing in some outstanding form. Josh Inglis has been in the form of his life and is clearing boundaries at will. Another thing they have been doing pretty well is that their bowling at the death has been just superb and their death bowlers have executed yorkers at will. Perth Scorchers have been in some amazing form and they will be looking to make sure that they add another BBL trophy to their cabinet.

Sydney Thunder – Sydney Thunder undoubtedly have one of the best batting line-ups in the tournament. They have been playing some superb cricket. Alex Hales and Oliver Davies have been in scintillating form. Daniel Sams has also been providing them with much-needed firepower at the death with the bat. Sydney Thunder has a little work to do when it comes to bowling at the death.

Sydney Sixers – Sydney Sixers have been one of the best teams in the last three seasons of the tournament after having lifted the title already. However, they have been a little hot and cold this season, winning some and losing some games. Josh Phillipe has been the sole fighter for some games and barring a game where Moses Henriques helped them over the line, their form has been a little on and off. However, if you have been following Big Bash for quite some time, you will know that all these players are seasoned campaigners.

Hobart Hurricanes – Hobart Hurricanes have not been at their best by any distance. But considering these are still early days in the tournament, they will know how to bounce back. Hobart has some of the biggest power hitters in the tournament in the form of Tim David, Matthew Wade and Asif Ali. The addition of Shadab Khan has also added some much-needed balance to this Hobart line-up. It might sound like a strange call considering where Hobart are at the points table but expect Hobart to go down to the top 4 or even the top 2.

Melbourne Renegades – Melbourne Renegades have one of the strongest line-ups in the tournament. But they have failed reasonably badly. A lineup which has Sam Harper, Maddinson, Finch, Shaun Marsh & Andre Rusell In their line-ups should win more games. Renegades also have some very good players in their bowling lineups and Kane Richardson has been leading the bowling very nicely. Expect Renegades to bounce back in the later stages of the tournament. And even though they are in the bottom half of the points table, expect the Renegades to finish quite well. Melbourne Renegades are the dark horses to lift this year’s BBL title.
