IPL: Moeen Ali and Chahar wrap up CSK win

Chennai Super Kings beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six wickets in Match 8 of IPL 2021, at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday.

CSK won the toss and elected to field first.

Batting first, PBKS put up a poor show finishing at 106 for eight in 20 overs.

The Kings had a poor start, losing Mayank Agarwal for a duck when the score was 1.

KL Rahul got run out with the score at 15 and PBKS never recovered from this blow.

Deepak Chahar was in superb form for CSK and ended with 4 for 13, bowling an incredible 18 dot balls.

He generated incredible banana swing and was virtually unplayable. His dismissals – Mayank, Gayle, Hooda and Pooran, broke the back of the PBKS batting.

The only resistance came from Shahrukh Khan who scored 47 off 36 balls, before getting dismissed in the final over, caught by Jadeja off Sam Curran.

Curran, Moeen Ali and Dwayne Bravo took a wicket each.

The 106 for 8 by PBKS was the lowest total for any team that batted for its full 20 overs at the Wankhede Stadium in the entire history of IPL.

Easy for CSK

Needless to say, the target of 107 was never going to be enough.

Opener Faf du Plessis scored an unbeaten 36 off 33 balls to help CSK win the match.

English all-rounder Moeen Ali also played himself into form, striking 46 runs in 31 balls, studded with seven fours and a six.

After Moeen fell with the score at 90, Rayudu and Raina also got out in quick succession to add some excitement into the match.

Sam Curran hit the winning boundary for CSK.

Chennai reached the target for the loss of four wickets in 15.5 overs.

Mohammed Shami was the best bowler for Punjab, taking two wickets in four overs.

Arshdeep Singh and Murugan Ashwin got a wicket each.
