IPL: Dhawan explodes as Capitals demolish Punjab

In the 11th match of IPL 2021, Delhi Capitals were up against Punjab Kings at Wankhede Stadium.

The Capitals won the match by chasing a massive target of 196 in 18.4 overs and they only lost 4 wickets in the run chase. 

DC won the toss and decided to bowl first.

The opening pair of Punjab Kings were on fire as they made a blistering start to their innings.

Mayank Agarwal made a sensational 69 runs on just 36 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes.

He single handedly destroyed the bowling of Delhi Capitals. Mayank and captain Rahul had a 100 run opening partnership with a scoring rate of 10 runs per over.

Deepak Hooda and Shahrukh Khan also added some valuable runs in the end.

Punjab Kings managed to score 195 runs with 4 wickets loss in their 20 overs.

Chris Woakes, Lukman Meriwala, Kagiso Rabada and Avesh Khan all got one wicket each in their respective 4 overs, but they all proved to be expensive.

Strong reply by Capitals

However, the match was far from over was not over.

Delhi’s opening pair responded brilliantly with a flurry of massive sixes and fours at the start.

Young gun Prithvi Shaw made a brilliant 32 runs of just 17 balls with a strike rate of 177. But, the star of the game was the one and only Shikhar Dhawan. 

The 35- year old played a match winning 92 run innings off just 49 balls.

Dhawan managed to hit 13 fours and 2 sixes. He was the man who took the game away from Punjab Kings in no time.

This was one of the best innings of his IPL career as Delhi won the match quite comfortably.

After Dhawan, captain Pant and Marcus Stoinis played cameos to finish the job for Capitals.

The bowlers of Punjab Kings were poor as they gave runs regularly.

Mohammad Shami was expensive with giving away 53 runs in his 4 overs.

However, Jhye Richardson got two wickets, Arshdeep Singh and Riley Meredith got one wicket each.

Delhi Capitals 198 for 4 (Dhawan 92, Shaw 32, Richardson 2-41) defeated Punjab Kings 195 for 4 (Agarwal 69, Rahul 61, Meriwala 1-32) by six wickets
