India vs Pakistan head-to-head in T20Is: The Men in Blue dominate their neighbours

India and Pakistan are set to face off in their second game of the T20 World Cup on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. The match will start at 8:00 PM IST. This is one game that the whole world is waiting to watch and one cannot keep their eyes off when these teams go up against each other.

Looking at their head-to-head record in T20Is, India have dominated with eight wins out of 12 matches, while Pakistan have won only three. One game ended in a tie (India though won the Bowl-Out). In T20 World Cups, India have been even more successful, losing only once to Pakistan - in 2021. These two teams usually only meet in T20 World Cups or in the Asia Cup, which makes the contest even more exciting.

While the cricketing rivalry between these sides has been ongoing for decades, their knack of putting together T20 thrillers goes back to the 2007 T20 World Cup when they first met in the group stages. That match ended in a tie, with India going on to win the match with the curious score of 3-0 - the Bowl-Out being the way ties were decided back in the day. Later, both teams faced each other in the final of the same tournament. India won in a nail-biting finish, with Ravi Shastri's famous words, “In the air, Sreesanth takes it, India wins! Unbelievable scenes here at the bull ring!” still being remembered by Indian fans. Pakistan, however, won the next T20 World Cup in 2009 by defeating Sri Lanka in the final. However, the two teams did not face each other in that tournament.

India continued their winning streak against Pakistan in T20 World Cups with comfortable victories in 2012, 2014, and 2016. Virat Kohli played a starring role on each occasion. In the 2021 edition, Pakistan finally broke their losing streak. Shaheen Afridi's brilliant bowling restricted India to 151 for 7 in Dubai. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan then chased down the target easily to win by 10 wickets, giving Pakistan their first win over India in either 50 or 20-over World Cups.

The 2022 T20 World Cup saw another memorable match. Virat Kohli played a stunning innings, scoring 82 unbeaten runs off 55 balls to help India chase down 160 after a shaky start.
