India vs Afghanistan head-to-head in T20Is: Men in Blue dominate

India and Afghanistan are set to face each other in a Super Eight encounter on June 20 at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. The match will start at 8:00 PM IST. India are also scheduled to play against Bangladesh and Australia in the Super Eight stage.

Looking at their head-to-head record in T20 Internationals, India and Afghanistan have clashed eight times. India have emerged victorious in six of these matches, with one match ending in a tie and another being abandoned. Afghanistan have not yet secured a win against India in T20Is.

The first T20I encounter between India and Afghanistan took place during the 2010 T20 World Cup in Gros Islet. India won that game comfortably by seven wickets, with Ashish Nehra earning the Man of the Match award for his three-wicket haul. These two sides have predominantly met in the T20 World Cups and the Asia Cup. Notably, in January 2024, they played a bilateral T20I series for the first time, which India won convincingly.

In their Asia Cup clash in 2022, one highlight was Virat Kohli reaching his 71st international century against Afghanistan. India have defeated Afghanistan in all their T20 World Cup meetings, which have occurred in 2010, 2012, and 2021. Their match at the Asian Games in 2023 was abandoned due to rain.

During their three-match bilateral series in January 2024, India won the series. The third T20I was particularly thrilling, with Rohit Sharma scoring a magnificent century, his fifth in T20Is. Afghanistan managed to tie the score, leading to a dramatic double Super Over. Ultimately, India managed to clinch the victory in the second Super Over.
