Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be hoping to pick up their first win in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 when they meet Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Chidambaram Stadium on Monday. The four-time IPL winners return to their home ground for the first time since 2019. CSK will be keen to grab two points against the Lucknow-based outfit, against whom the Yellow Brigade lost by six wickets last season.
Apart from Ruturaj Gaikwad, the rest of the CSK batting unit failed to spark in Friday’s IPL 2023 opener against Gujarat Titans (GT). Gaikwad scored 92, Moeen Ali managed 23, and MS Dhoni added a few runs at the end of the innings. The franchise think-tank would want Devon Conway, Moeen, and Ben Stokes to find their groove quickly.
Rajvardhan Hangargekar is a player to watch out for in the bowling department. The 20-year-old took three wickets for 36 runs in his four overs. Deepak Chahar, the experienced seamer in the squad, bowled economically but went wicketless. Uncapped Tushar Deshpande, CSK’s impact player, was taken to the cleaners by GT batters.
Spinners Mitchell Santner and Ravindra Jadeja could be crucial as the track in Chennai usually offers assistance for slow bowlers. The Sri Lankan duo of Matheesha Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana will miss the match. Also, pacer Sisanda Magala is unlikely to feature.
The CSK squad for the IPL 2023 season:
LSG would want to begin its first away trip this season with a win. KL Rahul, who has an excellent record against CSK, is the key batter in the squad. However, Quinton de Kock could miss out and is likely to be available from the franchise’s third fixture. But LSG still has an excellent batting line-up comprising Nicholas Pooran, Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni, and Krunal Pandya.
Avesh Khan, Jaydev Unadakat, Mark Wood, and Naveen-ul-Haq are top pace bowling options in the LSG squad. The Indian duo of Avesh and Undakat have taken close to 140 wickets in IPL. Meanwhile, the Englishman and the Afghan pacer will want to impress. Ravi Bishnoi will lead the spin attack, with Krunal Pandya and part-time spinner Deepak Hooda offering support.
The LSG squad in IPL 2023 season:
CSK and LSG have met only once, with KL Rahul’s men grabbing a six-wicket victory at Brabourne Stadium.
The IPL match six fixture is expected to be a close contest. The two franchises are affected by injuries and players missing out due to national team commitments. With the quality of players at its disposal, LSG might pick up the win against CSK.
