The recently conducted South African T20 auctions were a testimony of that fact. 306 players went under the hammer for auctions to be selected by the 6 IPL franchises. Tristan Stubbs proved out to be the hottest prospect in the auction after a bidding war ensued for his services where he was finally bought by SunRisers Eastern Cape. Rilee Rossouw and Marco Jansen were the next two most expensive buys.
One of the most shocking things that happened is that South Africa’s captain in the white ball format – Temba Bavuma & South Africa’s captain in the Tests – Dean Elgar, both remained unsold and were not picked by any of the franchises. This came across as a shocker to cricket fans all across the world specially because Temba Bavuma will be leading South Africa in the T20 World Cup just in a few weeks.
